Artsvision has created more than forty sustained arts education and learning initiatives throughout North America. What holds each of these initiatives in common is their commitment to school and community building through arts education. Our client history is one filled with foundations, school systems and arts organizations revered for their artistic excellence. For the past 15 years, we have been asked to guide these institutions in rethinking their relationships with their communities, schools and citizens.

The Acting Company
New York, New York

Artsvision developed and implemented a national touring theater arts and school curriculum immersion program, as well as a theater arts educational partnership for The Acting Company and New York City public schools. This multifaceted program included training actors to work effectively in the schools, classroom teacher training, curriculum and assessment design, parent learning programs, and more.

Annenberg Foundation Arts Education Challenge
New York, New York
In 1995, Artsvision created the Annenberg Foundation Challenge plan to restore arts education to the New York City public schools. Commissioned by the Board of Education of the City of New York, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and The Aaron Diamond Foundation, the five-year, $36-million plan will restore instructional programs in the arts and form system-wide curriculum practices linking arts education with critical school reform issues including literacy, drop-out prevention, increased parental participation, improved student learning attitudes, reduction of student conflict, and more.

The Aaron Diamond Foundation
New York, New York
Artsvision developed the plan for the execution of the Annenberg Foundation Arts Education Challenge, which was funded by The Aaron Diamond Foundation. Other Artsvision work supported by this foundation includes a two-year independent assessment/evaluation project launched in 1995 to assess the impact of the arts education programs at Greenwich House, Harlem School for the Arts, Diller-Quaile, and Little Orchestra Society. This research will aid the schools in securing future funding and improving their educational programming. In addition, this work contributes to the field of arts education by providing sorely needed research necessary to advocate arts education on a national level.

Ballet Chicago
Chicago, Illinois
Artsvision conducted an assessment and program design project for Ballet Chicago that focused on the development of a community-based school of ballet.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) & Baltimore Community Foundation
Baltimore, Maryland
Artsvision completed a major arts and education needs and resources assessment of the greater Baltimore region and The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's education and community programs. The recommendations, being implemented over the course of five years, target the following areas: current BSO programs, model arts education partnerships, high school/middle school programs, community advocacy, adult learning and audience development. The resulting program, Arts Excel, is a partnership between the BSO and twelve area public and private schools (six elementary, three middle, and three high schools). The goal of the program is to create art infused schools in which the arts are used in the daily curriculum as a teaching strategy to motivate students to succeed. Throughout the five-year implementation of the program, Artsvision has facilitated curriculum development, teacher training and artist training, and has provided ongoing strategic planning and fundraising support.

Boston Music Education Collaborative
The Boston Symphony Orchestra / WGBH / Boston Public Schools / New England Conservatory of Music

Boston, Massachusetts
Artsvision developed a culturally diverse music education program for this innovative consortium of Boston organizations, providing technical assistance in the areas of staff development, artist training, educational benchmark development, fundraising strategy and the overall implementation plan.

The Bushnell
Hartford, Connecticut
In 1993, Artsvision presented Arts Services for Schools and Communities in the Greater Hartford Region: A Blueprint for Transformation. The purpose of this assessment and accompanying plan was to improve and increase the availability of arts services for children and adults, both in school and outside of school-based facilities. The plan is based upon two years of research and structuring which led to the development and implementation of an arts education partnership, Partners in Arts and Education Revitalizing Schools (PARTNERS). This 10-year arts education program designed to infuse Hartford regional schools with the arts through partnerships with area arts organizations recently won the Dawson Achievement Award. Artsvision's ongoing consultation includes partnership facilitation, strategic planning, fundraising assistance, and the continued design of educational programming for The Bushnell.

The Bushnell PARTNERS Program / Arts Integration Program
Plainville, Connecticut
Artsvision facilitated the replication, planning and implementation of the Bushnell's award winning PARTNERS program in Plainville, CT schools. The program will help assimilate the arts into the traditional curriculum of Plainville elementary, middle and high schools.

Calgary City Board of Education
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Artsvision facilitated a partnership program of school systems and arts organizations. Artsvision President Mitchell Korn gave the keynote address at the Calgary City Teachers Association's annual convention where he spoke on arts education and school reform.

Charleston Symphony Orchestra
Charleston, South Carolina
As project consultant for a collaborative project among the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Gibbes Museum of Art, South Carolina Arts Commission, and several Charleston area school districts, Artsvision led the development of an arts education program which began at the third grade level. This innovative regional partnership project targets curriculum integration through the arts, teacher training, artist training, parent programs, and more.

Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE)
Chicago, Illinois
Artsvision's 1991 needs and resources assessment of Chicago resulted in the creation of Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE). This massive partnership program creates sustained relationships throughout Chicago, connecting neighborhood schools, arts institutions and community-based organizations so that arts experiences are available every day for every child at school. Implementation grants have been awarded to 13 partnerships between 44 schools, 53 arts institutions, and 27 community organizations. Now in its fifth year of full implementation, CAPE is a widely cited partnership model for the creation of arts infused urban schools. The program was recently featured in Champions of Change: The Impact of the Arts on Learning, a study published by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities and supported by the GE Fund and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundations which shows the positive impact that the arts have on inner city students.

Choral Arts Society
Washington, D.C.
In 1997, Artsvision began an analysis and evaluation of the Choral Arts Society's education and community programs and an assessment of the arts and education needs of Washington, D.C. area public schools. The resulting program has allowed the Society to work with D.C. schools to develop arts infusion programs for area students. In 1999, Artsvision provided the necessary technical assistance for the implementation of its recommendations, including teacher and artist training, curriculum development, assessment and partnership development.

The Cleveland Orchestra & The Abington Foundation
Cleveland, Ohio
In January 1996, Artsvision created an arts education blueprint plan for the Cleveland Orchestra that addressed the following key areas: integrated curriculum and theme; classroom resources; professional development for teachers; artist training; family programming; and assessment and evaluation. The resulting program, Learning Through Music, is a partnership between The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland schools designed to create arts infused schools in which children learn about and through the arts everyday. Artsvision is currently assisting in the implementation of the program through curriculum development, artist training, and strategic planning.

The Coalition of Manhattan Community Schools of the Arts
New York, New York
Artsvision conducted an analysis of the Coalition's established skills-based music partnerships with public schools and develop a manual designed to clearly state a set of operating standards to strengthen the effectiveness of the Coalition's existing educational programming.

Dayton Philharmonic
Dayton, Ohio
Artsvision completed a major arts and education needs and resources assessment of the Dayton community and the Dayton Philharmonic's education programs. Artsvision's plan created the means by which the Dayton Philharmonic could restructure its relationship with the community.

Dayton Hudson Corporation
Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota
Artsvision conducted an arts and education needs and resources assessment and program design process that led to a long-range, needs-responsive plan for arts education for the Twin Cities. The resulting plan delineated the various roles of the participating organizations and individuals; recommended basic organizational structures for school partnerships; recommended necessary technical services for the partnerships; detailed fundraising strategies; and, constructed the overall systems, mechanisms, assessment instruments and budgets required to create a vital and sustainable partnership program.

The Detroit Education, Arts and Community Partnership (DEACP)
Detroit, Michigan
Artsvision contributed to the formation of the DEACP through the results of its massive arts and education needs and resources assessment of Detroit. DEACP is an alliance of seven community based partnerships representing 30 schools and 40 arts and community organizations. The program recently received a $500,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation and a $500,000 grant from Hudson's. Artsvision continues to lead this project throughout each of the stages of its six-year implementation plan.

East Bay Community Foundation
Oakland/Berkeley, California
Artsvision researched, developed and facilitated the establishment of an effective, accountable and stable arts education initiative in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. This process included a comprehensive assessment of school needs for arts education and arts organization education programming, which resulted in an arts and education blueprint that sets forth a long-range, needs-responsive partnership plan with implementation strategies and early program implementation support.

Florida Lottery
Tampa, Florida
In the spring of 1998, Artsvision implemented a major arts education pilot initiative for Pinellas and Hillsborough county schools in the Tampa Bay area, sponsored by the Florida Lottery. Artsvision provided capacity building services in planning, artist and teacher training, curriculum development and assessment in order to build long term arts education programs for Florida communities.

GE Fund
Connecticut
In the fall of 1994, Artsvision conducted an arts and education needs and resources assessment of Fairfield County and the Stamford Symphony. In addition, Artsvision provides advice, through GE Fund support, to Plainville, Connecticut schools, as well as overall guidance on arts education policy.

Goodspeed Opera House
Hartford, Connecticut
In the spring of 2000, Artsvision will embark on a comprehensive needs and resources assessment spanning the field of music theater for the Goodspeed Opera House in order to develop a professional music theater training institute.

Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Arts Education Program
Caimbridge, Massachusetts
Artsvision President Mitchell Korn was the 1999 John Landrum Bryant Lecturer on Arts Education Policy. Mr. Korn presented "Building Institutions and Communities through Partnerships in the Arts" in April 1999. He continued his series in April 2000, lecturing on philanthropic and policy issues in arts education. Artsvision and Harvard also co-sponsored the first ever arts education job networking fair in April 2000.

Houston Grand Opera
Houston, Texas
Artsvision developed the Students Through the Arts Reaching Success (STARS) program. The 10-year design for education and community service for the Houston Grand Opera included repertoire development, artist training, overall program design and guidance on funding and long-term planning issues.

Hudson's
Detroit, Michigan
Commissioned by Hudson's, Artsvision conducted a comprehensive arts and education needs and resources assessment of Detroit. Over 60 Detroit area arts, community and higher education institutions and 12 area schools participated in the assessments.

Illinois Council on the Arts
Chicago, Illinois
Artsvision conducted a three-year study on the effects of intensive arts programming on at-risk inner-city schools through the assessment of a partnership between the Chicago Moving Company and two Chicago public schools. This project is a recipient of the NEA's "Arts Plus Initiative" grant.

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra
Indianapolis, Indiana
In the Spring of 1999, Artsvision conducted a major needs and resources assessment of the Indianapolis region, analyzing school arts programs, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra programs, community organizations, and local arts organizations. The resulting six-year plan calls for the creation of a Community Conservatory to provide comprehensive music and arts learning services for kindergarten through twelfth grade students, as well as adult learning programs, family programs, teacher professional development, and extensive artist training for orchestra musicians and artists from partner arts organizations. Currently, Artsvision is guiding the implementation of the Community Conservatory, providing technical services which include teacher training, artist training, curriculum development, and fundraising support.

Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (KSO)
Kalamazoo, Michigan
Artsvision presented a needs and resources assessment report for the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and provided support for this project in the areas of curriculum development, programmatic design, artist and teacher training, and more.

Kansas City Symphony
Kansas City, Mosouri
In the spring of 1999, Artsvision performed a comprehensive needs and resources assessment of Kansas City public schools and arts organizations to develop a plan for community service for the Kansas City Symphony. Included in the recommendations were the development of intensive school partnerships and the creation of an artist training institute to provide artists with the skills needed to build sustainable, meaningful relationships with communities and schools. Artsvision is currently overseeing the implementation of the plan, providing artist training, curriculum development, and overall guidance in program design.

The Little Orchestra Society

In the 1994/95 school year, Artsvision conducted a comprehensive educational assessment and evaluation of The Little Orchestra Society's Collaborative Arts-In-Education Program.

The John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation & the Palm Beach County Cultural Council
Palm Beach, Florida
In order to create comprehensive, K-12 grade arts and education programs throughout Palm Beach County, Artsvision conducted an arts and education needs and resources assessment of Palm Beach County that led to Project Learning Through Education and Arts Partnerships (LEAP). The LEAP program combines schools, arts organizations, individual artists, and community organizations to create partnerships that help schools integrate the arts into the daily curriculum. Artsvision facilitated LEAP's initial implementation, including the creation of a county-wide arts education technical assistance center; the formation of partnerships; overall program design; curriculum development; artist and teacher training; and more. The School Board of Palm Beach County recently appropriated $200,000 for schools participating in the project.

Marshall Field's/Dayton-Hudson
Chicago, Illinois
In 1991, Artsvision conducted an arts and education needs and resources assessment of Chicago, funded by a consortium of local and national foundations. Participating foundations included the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Prince Charitable Trust, Arie and Ida Crown Memorial Foundation, Chicago Community Trust, Polk Brothers Foundation, Sara Lee Foundation, Kraft/General Foods, Continental Bank, Chicago Tribune, Joyce Foundation, and others.

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO)
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Artsvision conducted a major needs and resources assessment of Milwaukee area schools and designed the award winning Arts in Community Education (ACE) program. This partnership program, now in its ninth year, addresses community needs by partnering the MSO with urban and suburban public and parochial schools, community-based artists and arts organizations. The program provides the mechanism for the creation of arts infused schools through integrated curriculum, teacher training, artist visits and culminating concert experiences. Artsvision's consultation included repertoire development, musician and conductor training, overall program design and guidance on funding and long-term planning issues. Artsvision also designed a middle school component for ACE. In the fifth year of program implementation, Artsvision completed a comprehensive evaluation that concluded that ACE had effectively reached its program goals

Music Hall
Detroit, Michigan
Artsvision worked with the Music Hall on the development of a strategic plan that focused on community relations and audience development. The long-range strategic plan that Artsvision created examined programmatic needs as well as implementation and fundraising strategies.

Nevada Symphony
Las Vegas, Nevada
In the spring of 1998, Artsvision began a major arts and education needs and assessment of the Las Vegas community and the Nevada Symphony's education programs. Through the direction of Artsvision, the Nevada Symphony is restructuring its relationship with area public schools to provide quality education services to Las Vegas children.

North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center
Charlotte, North Carolina
In 1996, Artsvision conducted a major needs and resource assessment of Charlotte area school students, teachers, parents and families in order to create a significant education initiative for the Charlotte region. The outcome of this comprehensive process was a blueprint plan for education whereby the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center could become much more than a building‹the plan provides a means for the center to be both "inside" schools and communities and schools and communities "inside" the center.

The Oregon Symphony Orchestra
Portland, Oregon
In the spring of 2000, Artsvision completed a major needs and resources assessment and program evaluation for the Oregon Symphony Orchestra. Our recommendations included a process whereby the Oregon Symphony will become a primary resource center in Oregon to help local and regional schools meet state standards in the arts.

The Park School
Baltimore, Maryland
In the spring of 1998, Artsvision designed a comprehensive arts education plan for this prestigious, private Baltimore school encompassing kindergarten through twelfth grade. Recommendations included departmental structure and frameworks for music, dance, drama and visual arts programs.

Pasadena Symphony
Pasadena, California
Artsvision completed a major arts and education needs and resources assessment of the Pasadena community and an evaluation of the Pasadena Symphony's education programs in December of 1997. Through the direction of Artsvision, the Pasadena Symphony is restructuring its relationship with area public schools to provide high quality education services to Pasadena children by helping Pasadena schools infuse the arts into the daily curriculum.

Royal Conservatory of Music
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Artsvision completed an arts and education needs and resources assessment of Metropolitan Toronto. This assessment led to the creation of A Community Arts and Education Partnership: a North York School Board arts and education partnership under the leadership of the Royal Conservatory of Music. Artsvision's consultation encompassed partnership facilitation, program design, fundraising, curriculum and assessment design, and artist and teacher training.

Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO)
Saint Paul, Minnesota
As a result of our assessment of SPCO's arts education programs, Artsvision designed an innovative new program: Chamber Orchestra Neighborhood Network of Education, Curriculum and Teachers (CONNECT). CONNECT targets essential school needs in music, arts integration, cultural diversity, and higher order thinking skills. The six-year program connects the SPCO with schools and other arts and community organizations throughout the Twin Cities to create comprehensive arts education partnerships that result in arts infused schools. This project also included the close involvement of SPCO's creative chair, Bobby McFerrin, a music education program for the SPCO's national tours, and a partnership with Public Radio International/Minnesota Public Radio to broadcast SPCO education programs nationwide.

The San Francisco Symphony
San Francisco, California
Artsvision designed and developed the "Adventures in Music (AIM)" program, which was awarded a million dollar NEA Challenge Grant. This comprehensive education program includes artist and conductor training, curriculum and repertoire development, and an overall thematic design with an emphasis on cultural diversity learning. The program helps San Francisco elementary schools include the arts in the daily curriculum. Currently, the ten-year program serves all public elementary schools in San Francisco. The newest stage of the program, AIM II, expands the program from the original grades of fourth through sixth to incorporate grades first and second. In the spring of 2000, Artsvision is facilitating a rigorous assessment of the entire AIM program.

San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD)
San Francisco, California
In 1995-96 Artsvision designed the educational plan for a new San Francisco School of the Arts (SOTA) which considered the wide-ranging Pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade arts education curriculum implications for the entire SFUSD. Artsvision created the educational plan and curricular vision, addressed the role of arts organizations, identified service opportunities of the school, and developed an arts education center for the entire district.

As Professor for Music and Community, Artsvision President Mitchell Korn teaches a ground-breaking series of seminars to train music conservatory students in arts and education, community performance techniques, classroom management skills, repertoire selection and thematic design issues.
